The Fircroft Trust needs to act now to keep our Maple Lodge family together.
The Maple Lodge building is an old house that we can no longer adapt to meet the changing needs of our older residents and those developing other illnesses such as dementia.
Until recently, people with learning disabilities have not been expected to survive into old age. Thankfully, with better support and improved quality of life, in many circumstances this is no longer the case. However, what has happened is that there are few residential homes that cater specifically for older people with learning disabilities. This is of course changing, and we realise that we need to be part of that change.
By not being able to provide continued care our older residents would need to move to appropriate housing – often out of Borough and away from friends and staff that they know and who understand them. This can be very distressing for them in a most vulnerable period of their lives.
This is a very real danger and one that we want to ensure never happens. We must be able to offer lifelong care from the Maple Lodge family and future residents.
With your help are developing purpose built accommodation that will provide real and lasting solutions for our residents changing needs.
We are committed to keeping our family together.
Please do as much as you can to support this appeal.
